Classes

UWE Dance Society offers classes in Ballet, Modern Jazz, Tap, HipHop, Contemporary and Dance Fitness. We do our best to offer something for all students, from those who have been dancing since they could walk, to those who just want to try something new!

Due to lack of interest, Tap classes have been cancelled for this term. We are looking at changing the day of the class. If you are interested, please please let us know as we would love to start up again in January. (Email us at uwedancesoc@hotmail.co.uk)

Classes are held in rehearsal room 1 in the Centre of Performing Arts (CPA) on Frenchay campus (at the top of Car park 1). 

Ballet 

Catering to all abilities our classical ballet class gives students training to build strength and flexibility. The class consists of Barre work, centre and performance routines. 

 

Modern Jazz 

A style of dance incorporating strength, flexibility and power. Combination steps, isolations, turns and elevated movements are used to construct a dynamic routine to popular and show music. 

 

Tap 

A general level class, learning a variety of steps from the basics of shuffles and pick-ups to the more complex wings and time-steps. Emphasis is on having fun but attention is paid to technique, so everyone can develop their knowledge. 

 

Hip Hop 

Hip Hop incorporates a range of funky moves like those seen in music videos, groups of people dancing together and battling to express a range of emotions and movement styles. Our class is aimed at beginners and teaches basic moves and techniques to produce a routine that can be performed as a class, to an audience or simply a way to stay fit. 

 

Contemporary 

Contemporary dance allows freedom of movement and expression using the whole body interpreting the emotion portrayed in the music. Our beginner class provides the foundations of this contemporary style, with a large focus on group work. 

 

Dance fitness 

Aims to improve stamina, strength and flexibility through energetic dance movements. Everybody is welcome to participate as you can work to your own ability and your needs.
